Santa and Mrs. Claus wait to cross Columbia Street on their way to the lighting of the town's Christmas tree on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006. About 100 people gathered to listen to an opera company sing traditional Christmas carols. Children then gathered around the tree as it was lit at the University Baptist Church courtyard. The event, by the Downtown Partnership, was a kickoff to the Christmas season downtown.
