UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC

UNC Hospitals is a not-for-profit hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. The hospital was established in 1952 as the medical school of the University of North Carolina. In 1989 the North Carolina General Assembly reorganized the hospital and specialty clinics as UNC Hospitals and brought it under state control.

Today UNC Hospitals is a 708-bed medical center and is one of three level I referral centers for the the triangle region of North Carolina. Duke University Medical Center in Durham and Wake Medical Center in Raleigh are the other two. UNC Hospitals includes North Carolina Children's Hospital, North Carolina Memorial Hospital, North Carolina Neurosciences Hospital, and North Carolina Women's Hospital.

Each year UNC Hospitals cares for residents from all 100 counties in North Carolina and several surrounding states. About 30 percent of UNC Hospitals' patients come from Orange and surrounding counties.
